Loire - About the Region
Loire is a very scenic area in France. There is loads to see
and do on both sides of the Loire River. The peaceful region
offers lush countryside, long sandy beaches & amazingly
constructed stone castles, buildings and bridges.
In western Loire Valley, Chateau Country was the stomping
grounds of kings and nobles during the Medieval times. The
amazing large stone castles of those days are still standing and
many offer tours and some even offer overnight lodging! The
valley is also known for fine dining and delectable wines - one
of the many reasons kings and nobles liked it here maybe?
This region of France is beautiful. Its full of chateaus,
castles, rivers, magical forests and gardens. Loire boasts well
maintained and manicured outdoor spaces which were inspired by
generations of talented gardeners, who spend their lives working
on the area as if it was still a kings garden. Loire has many
chateaus, museums and historical sites to visit, such as the
Gallo-Roman ruins.
The
6th largest city in France is Nantes, which has more than
277,000 people. Nantes has developed into one of France's major
ports too; Nantes was once a maritime and naval port but now the
maritime and naval activities have moved downstream to Saint
Nazaire. Nantes has become the metropolitan centre for the west
of France. The city has many different shops, cafes, bars and
restaurants to choose from and has many old buildings which look
amazing compared with the newer estates.
